About the Department of General Surgery

The Department of General Surgery at RKDF Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal manages elective and emergency surgical conditions of the abdomen, gastrointestinal tract, breast, thyroid, hernia, trauma, burns and soft tissue, supported by modular operation theatres, surgical intensive care and structured perioperative services. Experienced surgical faculty and dedicated theatre teams provide daily specialist OPD, inpatient and day-care procedures, laparoscopic and open surgery, emergency and trauma surgery and planned follow-up. Clinical teaching runs through surgical postings, bedside case discussions, operation-theatre observation and assistance, suturing and skills practice and internship duties under the NMC competency-based curriculum. Students learn preoperative assessment, aseptic technique, wound and drain care, fluid and nutrition management and postoperative monitoring, while surgical audit, journal clubs and case conferences build clinical judgement and prepare graduates for postgraduate training.
