About the Department of Dermatology
The Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy at RKDF Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal diagnoses and treats conditions of the skin, hair and nails along with sexually transmitted infections and leprosy. Common presentations include eczema, psoriasis, acne, fungal and bacterial infections, hair loss, pigmentary disorders and drug reactions. Care is largely outpatient-based and includes specialist clinics, dermatological procedures, patch testing, cryotherapy and electrocautery where indicated, and inpatient consultation for patients admitted under other departments. Diagnosis is supported by clinical examination together with laboratory, histopathology and microbiology services. Teaching for MBBS students follows the NMC competency-based curriculum, focusing on accurate description of skin lesions, common dermatoses, national leprosy and STI programme guidance, patient counselling and the rational use of topical and systemic therapy, delivered through clinical postings and case-based bedside discussion.
