About the Department of Pulmonary Medicine
The Department of Pulmonary Medicine — also known as Respiratory Medicine or TB and Chest — at RKDF Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal manages diseases of the lungs and airways, including tuberculosis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, pleural effusion and occupational lung disease. The department provides specialist OPD, dedicated ward-based respiratory care, pulmonary function testing, nebulisation and oxygen therapy, pleural procedures and support for critically ill patients needing respiratory care, working with Microbiology, Radio-Diagnosis and General Medicine. It also supports national tuberculosis elimination programme activities covering diagnosis, notification, treatment and follow-up. Undergraduate teaching follows the NMC competency-based curriculum and covers respiratory history and examination, sputum diagnostics, chest radiograph interpretation, inhaler and nebuliser technique and TB programme guidelines, taught through clinical postings and bedside case discussion.
