About the Department of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry at RKDF Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal provides assessment and treatment for mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance-use disorders, childhood and adolescent behavioural problems, and psychological distress associated with physical illness. Services include a psychiatry OPD, dedicated ward-based psychiatric care, counselling and psychotherapy sessions, deaddiction support and liaison consultation for patients admitted under other departments. Care is delivered with attention to confidentiality, dignity and the provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act. Undergraduate teaching follows the NMC competency-based curriculum and covers psychiatric history-taking, mental status examination, recognition of common psychiatric disorders in general practice, risk assessment, communication and counselling skills and the rational use of psychotropic medication, delivered through clinical postings and supervised OPD exposure.
