About the Department of Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology at RKDF Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal teaches how drugs act in the body, how they are selected, prescribed and monitored, and how adverse effects are recognised and reported. It is a Phase II MBBS subject that links basic science to safe, rational prescribing. Teaching covers general and systemic pharmacology, chemotherapy, toxicology, pharmacoeconomics and rational drug use, delivered through lectures, prescription-writing exercises, critical appraisal of drug promotional literature and computer-assisted learning in line with the NMC competency-based curriculum. The department maintains experimental and clinical pharmacology laboratories and a drug museum, and supports pharmacovigilance and adverse-drug-reaction monitoring for the teaching hospital in coordination with clinical departments. Faculty guide undergraduate research, drug-utilisation studies and continuing medical education on rational prescribing.
