About the Department of Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology at RKDF Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal provides eye care and outpatient ophthalmic services covering refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma, conjunctival and corneal disease, diabetic retinopathy screening, squint, ocular trauma and childhood visual impairment. Clinical services include specialist OPD, vision and refraction testing, slit-lamp examination, tonometry, fundus evaluation, minor procedures and cataract and other ophthalmic surgery in a dedicated operation theatre, with emergency cover for eye injuries. The department supports national blindness-control activities, community eyescreening camps and school vision screening in coordination with Community Medicine. For MBBS students, teaching follows the NMC competency-based curriculum and covers visual acuity testing, direct ophthalmoscopy, torch-light examination, diagnosis of common eye conditions and referral and counselling skills, delivered through clinical postings and supervised OPD and theatre exposure.
